The aim of this latest blog is to chronicle my journey towards an ironman in 2017.
This year I did IM Germany (http://imfrankfurt2015.blogspot.co.uk)
2013(http://hagakure9.blogspot.co.uk) & 2014 (http://hagakure99.blogspot.co.uk) I did the outlaw in Nottingham.
I saw progress in fitness training for both. 2013 I was coached by Paradise Tri's Simon Brierley. I completed and had a reasonable first IM.
2014 I knocked 1hr 20min or so off my previous time. I was faster and stronger.
My aim in 2015 was to complete the iconic IM Frankfurt in sub 12hrs. I finished but failed to get the time. Mainly due to the race being held on Germany's hottest ever day. 1000 people didn't finish. However if I'm honest with myself I felt more like 2013 condition than 2014.
So onwards and upward.
Since Germany I've trained a bit but not much. I had July off. I ran a bit in August and September. I've managed to get my 5K down to 21:59 over the last couple of weeks and I've started swimming a couple of times a week.
Yesterday I cycled with GYCC's fast group and managed to hang on without getting dropped. Workout: http://tpks.ws/AqLC
The title of the blog is 2017 as I'm not doing an ironman next year. The plan is to use 2016 to lay a solid base. I aim to train with higher intensity and improve my speed. To do this I will be running 10K's, already entered GY & Southwold as well as Lode half. I'll also be cycling with GYCC fast lads and am going to sign up with trainer road to hopefully give my cycling more structure.
Next year I want to race more frequently. So far the main race is the ITU event in Leeds next June, I've also entered the Outlaw half in May. I'm going to try and get into the Vitruvian as I loved the race in 2011 when I did it. Hopefully the race list will grow shortly.
In terms of the ironman for 2017 I've not decided which one yet. It has to be fast though. My shortlist is Sweden, Barcelona and Denmark so far. I've got until next Summer to decide.
So this is where I'm at. It's all about the journey!
