Injured. Bah.
Everything was going so well. Running was good. Biking with GYCC training ride was going okay. I had joined Bannatynes gym and swimming was progressing then...
Running EACCL round at Fritton was cruising along with Philo, 2 mile in and I went over on my ankle. Honestly thought I'd broken it. Rolled around for a bit, after stopping the Garmin, and then hobbled back to the start. This was when stupidity kicked in. I then ran another 2 miles before dropping out. Yes 2miles on a knackered ankle. Idiot.
Its now 4 weeks since I ran properly and it is still not 100%. Tried a couple of miles a fortnight ago but had to walk home.
So I've been swimming with a pull bouy, lifting weights and spinning in the house.
Did go out out for the first time in a month with the group on Sunday and 3 times they had to stop and wait for me. Frankly thats embarrassing!
I'm going to try running again latter this week and build slowly over the Xmas.
New year the real tri training starts again and I can't wait!!
On a personal note my Gran fell in the home a few weeks ago breaking six ribs. Honestly thought she would be okay. She developed Pneumonia and died a week ago. I feel crushed. I know she was 91 but she's been so central to my life that I tended to think she would live forever. I hope she's with my Grandad now. Worst time I have ever been through. Emotion keeps pouring out. Funeral next week. Hopefully we will all cheer up before Xmas.

22nd October 2015
Last month :
Running and biking well. Run intervals fast. Biking with GYCC fast group.
Bit of a sore throat.
Tonsillitis. Blah.
Holy fucking shit. Throat closes. Quincy in throat needs lancing.
Weekend in hospital. Morphene and pain!!
Week in Prague. Slow recovery.
Try to run Whitlingham 10k. Pull out after a mile. Stamina gone.
Slow rebuild to fitness.
Basically everything has turned to shit.
Had to pull out of the GY 10k last week as just couldn't run that far. Did cycle Holmes cup which was fun in the rain.
This week intervals are getting better. Joined Bannantynes gym and swimming is decent in the fast lane. Started trainer road and enjoying the structure. Not done too many yet as I'm still trying to get outside.
On the plus side at least I'm nearly through October without an injury.

21st September 2015 - A new beginning
The aim of this latest blog is to chronicle my journey towards an ironman in 2017.
This year I did IM Germany (http://imfrankfurt2015.blogspot.co.uk)
2013(http://hagakure9.blogspot.co.uk) & 2014 (http://hagakure99.blogspot.co.uk) I did the outlaw in Nottingham.
I saw progress in fitness training for both. 2013 I was coached by Paradise Tri's Simon Brierley. I completed and had a reasonable first IM.
2014 I knocked 1hr 20min or so off my previous time. I was faster and stronger.
My aim in 2015 was to complete the iconic IM Frankfurt in sub 12hrs. I finished but failed to get the time. Mainly due to the race being held on Germany's hottest ever day. 1000 people didn't finish. However if I'm honest with myself I felt more like 2013 condition than 2014.
So onwards and upward.
Since Germany I've trained a bit but not much. I had July off. I ran a bit in August and September. I've managed to get my 5K down to 21:59 over the last couple of weeks and I've started swimming a couple of times a week.
Yesterday I cycled with GYCC's fast group and managed to hang on without getting dropped. Workout: http://tpks.ws/AqLC
The title of the blog is 2017 as I'm not doing an ironman next year. The plan is to use 2016 to lay a solid base. I aim to train with higher intensity and improve my speed. To do this I will be running 10K's, already entered GY & Southwold as well as Lode half. I'll also be cycling with GYCC fast lads and am going to sign up with trainer road to hopefully give my cycling more structure.
Next year I want to race more frequently. So far the main race is the ITU event in Leeds next June, I've also entered the Outlaw half in May. I'm going to try and get into the Vitruvian as I loved the race in 2011 when I did it. Hopefully the race list will grow shortly.
In terms of the ironman for 2017 I've not decided which one yet. It has to be fast though. My shortlist is Sweden, Barcelona and Denmark so far. I've got until next Summer to decide.
So this is where I'm at. It's all about the journey!
